Reason:      Minimum Wage Increase Effective Jan 1, 2025

Date:           November 19, 2024

The Virginia minimum wage is scheduled to increase to $12.41 effective January 1, 2025, as approved by the General Assembly. The increase is the result of a bill passed by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly that requires the state's minimum wage to be adjusted for inflation.

You may view the current language in the Code of Virginia related to the scheduled increases through 2026 here: https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title40.1/chapter3/section40.1-28.10/

Wage and Salaried employees under $12.41/hour or $25,812.80 will be eligible for the increase.

We understand that some colleges would prefer to extend eligibility to other pay groups as well so we ask that colleges using the SSC Hire to Retire services run the V_HR_JOB_QUERY in Cardinal, determine the entire population you wish to include, indicate the effective date you will use IF it will be before January 1, 2025, and upload the approved query to your college folder on the VCCS SharePoint site located here Shared Services College Folder by no later than noon on Monday, December 16, 2024.
